Director’s Report:
- September 5th Lunchtime concert was a success for our first lunchtime concert venture. Approximately 150 attended the CSO’s Quintet performance. Several people asked to have this event back next year; if we do, we will be better in our due diligence to avoid religious days-we over looked Rosh Hashanah on the calendar.
- · e concert season wrapped up on Saturday, September 7th with approximately 450 people attending the American Graffiti Band concert.
- · ke Kuechley, who grew up in Evendale and is currently playing in the National Football League with the Carolina Panthers, has offered to donate a jersey to the village to be displayed at the Recreation Center. The presentation would take place at the Village Town Meeting on November 10th. Stiney Vonderhaar made a motion appreciating Luke’s donation and accepting the jersey; Gus Janszen seconded the motion. Motion approved.
- · ree commission members have terms ending December 31, 2013. Wayne Mosley said yes to another term; but if we have another business person to represent, he is open to the idea of stepping aside. Gus Janszen said maybe; he strongly believes sports should be represented on commission. If we can find another parent of a multi-sport player, Gus too is willing to step aside. Pamela Meyers is not at this morning’s meeting. Stiney Vonderhaar is ending his terms on Village Council but would like to remain on Recreation Commission as resident representative or the business representative.
hi Lambda Pi Report:
- Thirty members have been attending.
- The Fresh Meat competition just wrapped up last night. The winning teens, Amanda Puthoff and Matthew Hildebrandt, each received a $100.00 bill. These fun, one-minute challenges promote friendship, team building, and fun competition.
- The new eighth grade class is very active. At the recent Mother Son Night of Fun, four of the eight Phi volunteers were eighth graders. More boys are attending the Wednesday night open houses. The group plays more Frisbee, dodge ball, and soccer.
- Upcoming events include the Haunted Trail and the annual holiday overnight/party.
Open Discussion:
- Stiney Vonderhaar asked if there could be a community calendar developed. For the following reasons:
- n September 7th we had a concert and while Gorman Heritage Farm had their Row By Row dinner going on.
- The village newsletter did not arrive at some homes until the Saturday after the Business lunch concert on Thursday.
- The entrance signs have been up so long, people “tune out” what they say.
- A concern was raised that email blasts from the website may not be going out. Two commissioners stated they have not received any emails since the village moved onto the fi-optics internet wiring connection. We will follow up with Jack Cameron about the issue. Wayne mentioned our web-blasts were going into his junk mail folder.
- Years ago, Bob Griffin, an Evendale resident, donated property to create the Griffin Nature Preserve. Recently, Bob lost his home to a fire and is currently working with insurance adjusters and the village to salvage as much as they can. Options being considered include not rebuilding the house at all; or re-building the house with windows overlooking the Preserve, and to display Bob’s collectibles.
- Gus Janszen wondered why our July attendance numbers have decreased 35% over the last three years. Part of the percentage loss is weather conditions; decrease in July 4th attendance (weather); and summer camp numbers decreased. Two years ago, we had more swim meets which meant less membership usage of the pool.
- Stiney Vonderhaar mentioned sidewalks have been added to Wyscarver Road on the Griffin Nature Preserve side.
- The University of Cincinnati Engineering Masters Program has been working with CACC on the bike path plans. Phase 1 was presented last school semester; while phase 2 of planning is underway this semester. Stiney will bring a copy of Phase 1 to our next meeting and invited everyone to the presentation of Phase 2 on Thursday, December 5th at 6pm at the Dan Beard Boy Scout Center.
Motion to adjourn made at 8:19am by Stiney Vonderhaar; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion approved.
